Religion Series: Part 2

Pete Buttigieg should be applauded for what he is doing in these tweets. The attack in San Diego highlights some of the dangers of radical religion. I stated before, religion should serve to unify the people, bring support for laws, and binds the people to the state through a sense of duty, honor, and service. Attacks on holy places and religious intolerance, like anti-Semitism, have no place in a healthy state. Extreme, violent religious intolerance (again as stated before) creates a state of war. This is impermissible. Pete's direct condemnation of these acts of religious intolerance and of racism it supports a larger goal of peace and unity. His condemnation reaffirms that this is not what the sovereign desires of religion.

His last tweet in which he states "we can never forget that our obligation to work towards religious freedom and social justice is both shared in personal", is a powerful one. He first reaffirms religious tolerance, of course. He then also states support for social justice. Any admonishing to uphold laws just lie and uniformly should be applauded. And finally reminds his Twitter base that the pursuance of religious freedom and social justice is both a collective issue in an individual issue. This is beneficial as a remind us of the power of the sovereign as a collective, but also draws attention to the need of every individual to do their duty as well.
